From 209lbs to 115lbs: My 3 Year Weight Loss Journey with GLP-1 and EllieMD

🌟 3 Years, 94 Pounds, and a Whole New Me 🌟

Three years ago, I stood on the scale and saw 209 lbs staring back at me. That number was more than just a reflection of my weight. It was a reflection of how much I’d been struggling in silence. My body wasn’t just unhappy. It was literally screaming for help, and I was doing my absolute best to ignore it.

This was me at 209lbs. I was in total denial about how bad it had actually gotten. My health was suffering, and I was just trying to ignore the truth.

Let me set the stage for you. My blood pressure was completely out of control. Honestly, it was at stroke level dangerous. As a nurse who started out on a neurosurgical unit in the “stroke capital of the world,” I knew exactly what those numbers meant. To be frank, it freaked me the eff out. My cholesterol levels weren’t much better, and then I was hit with a sleep apnea diagnosis that I tried to pretend wasn’t a thing. Spoiler alert: denial doesn’t magically make the snoring stop. Who knew? 😅

On top of all that, my energy was gone, my confidence was shattered, and I felt like I was stuck in a never-ending loop of “lose 5lbs, gain 10 back.”

This photo is such a great "bridge" in your story! Being at 192 lbs right before that big leap into your GLP-1 journey is a moment so many people can relate to. It is that "breaking point" where the denial finally starts to crack. Here is the SEO-rich metadata for your WordPress site and a hook that hits that Shannon Mckinstrie vibe you love.WordPress Image MetadataFieldSEO Optimized & Authentic ContentAlt TextNiki Lamie at 192 lbs right before starting a GLP-1 weight loss journey with Ellie MD for a 94 lb total transformation.
192 lbs and right on the edge of a total life change. This was the moment I stopped making excuses.

When the “Math Didn’t Math”

Fast forward to about 2.5 years ago. My doctor and I finally said, “enough is enough.” I had managed to lose 30lbs on my own, but with the tiniest change of adding just one regular soda back to my diet once a month, I quickly gained 20lbs back. My doctor agreed with me that my math just didn’t math. My calories in were not equaling my calories out, which is something so many women with PCOS struggle with!

At 192 lbs, I began my GLP-1 weight loss journey. Let me tell you, it was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made for my longevity. Thanks to my incredible telehealth team at EllieMD, I finally had the tools, guidance, and accountability to turn things around. They monitored my progress and kept my wellness plan on point. The community was there to cheer me on, even when I was tempted to drown my frustrations in chips. Because, let’s be honest, sometimes the snacks really do call your name! 🍟🙈

October 3, 2023. 192.6 lbs. This was the day I finally stopped talking about it and started my first GLP-1 injection.

I remember standing there on October 3, 2023, taking a side-profile photo at 192.6 lbs. I was terrified, but I knew I needed that ‘before’ because this time, I was actually going to change my life with GLP-1

There’s a specific milestone around 150 lbs where the ‘paper towel effect’ kicked in. Suddenly, the clothes I was wearing, like this bright blue dress I finally felt confident in, started fitting differently, and for the first time, I didn’t want to hide from the camera.

Pushing Past 135 lbs

I really thought 135 lbs was my absolute “ceiling” because, for my entire adult life, my body had drawn a line in the sand right there.

To understand why that number felt like a dead end, we have to go back to when I was 19. I was 115 lbs and decided to go on the Depo-Provera shot. Little did I know, I had undiagnosed PCOS, and that medication threw my hormones into a literal tailspin. I gained 15 lbs in just 72 hours. Let that sink in! Over the next few months, while that medication was still in my system, I gained another 15 lbs.

135 lbs. The weight I thought was my “finish line” because I hadn’t been lower since I was 19. I was so wrong!

For the longest time, 150 lbs became my frustrating “baseline.” I had managed to drop down near that initial 15 lb gain once before, but I could never, ever break below it. Every other time I tried to lose weight, I hit a wall at that second 15 lb mark and stayed stuck.

But I have to be real with you: the times in my past when I did get down to 150, or even when I was 115 at nineteen, I did NOT get there the healthy way. I was struggling, my habits weren’t sustainable, and my body wasn’t actually thriving.

120 lbs and feeling more like “me” than ever before. This journey has been worth every single second.

This is the first time in my life that I have been at a healthy weight and actually done it the healthy way. Reaching a normal BMI and pushing past that 135 lb hurdle with EllieMD wasn’t just a weight loss win. It was a metabolic breakthrough. For the first time since I was a teenager, my hormones aren’t running the show in a negative way. I finally have the medical support to keep my PCOS in check and the tools to maintain this 94 lb loss for the long haul.

The Results: 94 Pounds Down

Here I am today, 94 pounds lighter, rocking a normal BMI for the first time since I was 19 years old.

What has changed since reaching 115 lbs?

  • Sleep Apnea: Completely gone.
  • Blood Pressure: Controlled and healthy.
  • Cholesterol: Finally playing nice.
  • Confidence: Through the roof!

But let me be real for a second. This journey has not been all rainbows and glitter. 🌈✨ There were tough days, tears, and moments when I questioned if I could actually do it. There were times when progress felt slow, and I had to remind myself that every small victory added up to something bigger. This transformation didn’t happen overnight, and it certainly didn’t happen without effort. But oh, was it worth it.

Living my life again at 115 lbs! I finally have the energy and confidence to show up for every moment.

Learning to Live Again

I’ve learned so much over these three years. I’ve learned to celebrate the little wins, like fitting into a smaller size and having more energy to play with my bulldog Rossi. She was very happy about this, by the way 🐶. And oh yeah… I ran a freakin 5K!

Most importantly, I’ve learned that taking care of myself isn’t selfish. It is necessary. This journey wasn’t just about weight loss results. It was about saving my life. It was about proving to myself that I am resilient and worth the effort.

Let me tell you, you are worth it!

How to Handle Snack Cravings and Maintain Weight Loss on a GLP-1

If you’re like me and find yourself stuck in the house for a few days, you might be feeling a little extra snacky! I know I definitely do. That is totally my M.O. though. I always snack way more when I am chillin at home than when I’m at work on a busy shift in the NICU or out running errands.

Healthy Snacks for Your GLP-1 Weight Loss Journey

The biggest difference for me now, especially after losing 94 pounds, is that I don’t eat the massive quantities I used to. I also typically reach for healthier options. My go-to snacks include That’s It fruit bars, protein bars that actually taste like candy, protein chips, and granola bars.

Key Lime Pie protein bar by Barebells on a tropical background, a healthy snack idea for GLP-1 maintenance.
This Key Lime Pie protein bar by Barebells actually tastes like dessert. It is one of my favorite go to snacks when I am stuck at home and feeling snacky.

Do I still cave and have a fun-size Snickers?

You bet I do!

But I don’t eat the whole bag. And I absolutely do not feel guilty over wanting and having a Snickers once in a blue moon now. That is exactly what happens when you use these medications as a tool and not just a quick fix.

Navigating GLP-1 Maintenance: How to Taper Off GLP-1 Medication

This is also a huge part of where I am on my own wellness journey right now. I am well into maintenance, but I’m also slowly decreasing my dosing to allow for a slightly higher food intake than when I was actively losing weight. Finding yourself stuck at home for a few days can really test that balance! I’m in that tricky spot between increasing my intake & decreasing my dose, making sure not to do either one too quickly or too slowly.

I don’t want to lose any more weight, but I also don’t want to gain more than a few pounds in the process, so I can maintain my other health goals, like my lower blood pressure.

Maintenance isn’t always as easy as it looks on the gram. But I have amazing tools and resources at my fingertips with EllieMD to keep it going!

Will I Gain Weight if I Stop Taking My GLP-1?

It’s completely normal to worry about the weight coming right back the second you stop your medication. This is a super common question!

If you start or continue your GLP-1 journey with me, I will be your ultimate nurse hype girl. I will help you learn how to make better choices that keep you full longer so you can continue these healthy habits when you are ready to come off the meds.

It’s totally okay to do a slow taper off if that makes you feel more comfortable. You can ease into doing it all on your own by planning your taper doses directly with your doctor. If you notice the scale creeping up during your taper, that’s when we will plan the right diet and activity adjustments to help you maintain your current weight. Then, if the weight starts creeping back up after you are completely off the medications, you can talk to your provider about how a short-term microdose might be beneficial.

Depending on your personal health history, like mine with PCOS, it’s also completely fine if you need to be on these medications long term. It is totally up to you and your doctor to decide if that is the right choice for your body.

Why is my pee blue? The “OG” Secret for Brain Fog and Energy

Let’s be real for a second. If you looked down and saw blue or blue-green pee in the toilet, you’d probably freak out just a little, right? But what if I told you that “blue pee” is actually the latest buzz in the wellness world for kicking brain fog to the curb?

We’re talking about Methylene Blue.

If you’ve been feeling like your brain is stuck in a permanent mid-afternoon slump, or if perimenopause has invited “brain fog” to live in your head rent-free, you’re going to want to read this.

What is Methylene Blue? (And no, it’s not a TikTok trend)

While it might be trending on social media, Methylene Blue is actually the “OG” of medicine. It’s a pharmaceutical-grade compounded dye that has been used by doctors and hospitals for over 150 years.

Unlike those random supplements you find in a late-night scrolling session on an online marketplace, the version I’m obsessed with is prescribed and overseen by licensed medical providers through EllieMD.

Infographic showing potential benefits of pharmaceutical-grade methylene blue, including cognitive function, mental clarity, cellular energy, and mitochondrial support.
Methylene blue is being studied for its potential role in supporting cognitive function, cellular energy, and mitochondrial health.

The “Blue Pee” Mystery Solved

First things first: the blue pee. It’s totally normal! It’s just a sign that your body is processing the Methylene Blue exactly how it should. Your system takes what it needs for cellular energy and flushes out the rest.

Pro-Tip: If your 💩 turns blue, that’s a different story. That’s a “call your provider” moment because it means your body isn’t breaking it down quite right.

Why Women are Reaching for Methylene Blue for Brain Fog

If you are in the perimenopause trenches, you know that energy isn’t exactly predictable anymore. One minute you’re fine, the next you’re hitting a wall that even an Alani can’t fix.

Methylene Blue is being studied for its potential to support:

  • Mental Clarity: Helping you find your keys (and your train of thought).
  • Physical Energy: Boosting how your cells turn oxygen into fuel.
  • Cognitive Function: Supporting long-term brain health and memory.

Steady Support, Not a Caffeine Crash

The best part? This isn’t a stimulant. You won’t get those shaky, “I had too much espresso” jitters. Think of it less like a quick caffeine spike and more like a slow, steady stream of support for your cells.

It’s all about mitochondrial health. When your “cellular batteries” are running low, it doesn’t just feel like you’re tired. It feels like a total lack of motivation and true mental fatigue.

Why the “Pill” Version is a Game Changer

I know a lot of us in the wellness space are used to injections, but let’s be honest: sometimes we just want things to be simple.

If you’ve been looking for ways to increase energy without more shots, you are going to love this. Our version is a simple pill. No needles, no fuss, just pharmaceutical-grade support tailored to your individual needs.

Is Methylene Blue Right for You?

There is so much nuance to this conversation, especially since it’s even being studied in relation to Alzheimer’s and long-term cognitive care. Because it’s so unique (and because it turns your pee blue!), it’s hard for scientists to do “blind” studies, which is why it stays such a hot topic for research.

If you’re ready to stop guessing and start supporting your brain health with something backed by science, let’s chat about adding this to your routine.

NAD+ for Chronic Fatigue: Why Your System is Crashing

Tired of Running on Empty? The Cellular Key to Boosting Metabolism & Focus

That Energy Drink Crash is NOT Normal

You ever hit the point where your third Alani just feels like a very expensive can of fizzy disappointment? Were you relying on that quick jolt to get you through your day (or night if you’re like me), but the energy part packed up and left the building? SAME SIS, SAME!

That crashing feeling, that chronic metabolic fatigue, isn’t just about poor habits. The truth is, it might be a shortage of a critical molecule your body needs to function at its peak.

The Spark Plug (NAD+) Inside Every Cell

What is truly running the stage for The Greatest Show (which is you, girl)? It’s a molecule called NAD+ (Nicotinamide Adenine Dinucleotide).

NAD+ is basically the MVP molecule that helps your body turn food into actual, usable energy. Think of NAD+ as the spark plug for your cellular engine. You need a strong spark to ignite your fuel and get moving. The studies show that NAD+ helps keep your cells young and resilient and improves how your body’s Energy Factory works, which is the heart of your energy production. For me, it was like the five thousand tabs in my brain finally closed themselves.

It keeps everything running smoothly:

  • Focus
  • Metabolism
  • Mood

The Spark Plug runs all of it. When the spark plug is weak, every system reading, from your energy output to your focus, is compromised.

NAD+ is a vital coenzyme for cellular health. Learn how Ellie MD’s NAD+ formulation can help support your energy production, DNA repair, and overall metabolic function.

The Metabolic Stressors Aging Your Energy

So if NAD+ is so critical for cellular energy, why do we constantly feel so depleted?

NAD+ levels drop as we age. This is unavoidable. But those levels also drop due to chronic stress or when we are running on caffeine and vibes. You are surviving on pure grit, and your brain literally feels like TV static.

In my own experience, this is where I saw the biggest win. That overwhelming, chaotic ADHD haze I used to deal with started easing up; it was like the five thousand tabs stuck open in my brain finally closed themselves instead of crashing. I felt clearer and more “with it.”

The Glow Up is Real (Even the Awkward Part)

NAD+ plays a major role in cellular energy and turnover, which is great for your skin. I can tell you that my skin definitely had its own little purge moment at first—hello, surprise zits! But that initial reaction can be a normal part of the process.

Once that purge was over? Game changer. People were literally giving me compliments and asking what foundation I was wearing because my skin looked so good—and I wasn’t even wearing any! That’s when I knew the NAD+ was doing the dang thing and the cell turnover was happening!

The Difference Between Dragging and Doing

Supporting those NAD+ levels can help your body’s natural energy process stay on track. It’s not a miracle fix or a sudden jittery jolt; it’s a subtle, steady kind of clarity that coffee wishes it could give.

It’s the simple difference between dragging and doing. If you’re tired of guessing and you just want reliable energy, supporting this molecule is the most common sense, science-backed place to put your focus.

Beyond Weight Loss: The Nurse’s Guide to Microdosing GLP-1s and NAD+

Are you tired of feeling tired?

I hear it every single day. You are exhausted, you are experiencing brain fog, and you feel like your body is fighting against you. You tell yourself you will prioritize your health “after the holidays” or “in January.”

But as a nurse, I am here to tell you that exhausted is not a personality trait. And accepting that feeling drained is “just a part of aging” is not an option.

If you have been curious about the buzz surrounding GLP-1s but are hesitant because you don’t want to just “lose weight”—or if you are in that perimenopause transition and looking for a way to feel like yourself again—it is time to look at the science of microdosing.

This isn’t about a quick fix. It is about longevity science. And right now, there is a special opportunity to start this protocol with a massive advantage (more on that at the end).

What is Microdosing?

When most people hear about GLP-1s, they think of aggressive weight loss. But there is a different approach: Microdosing.

Think of microdosing as whispering to your metabolism instead of screaming at it. We aren’t trying to completely silence your appetite or force rapid changes. We are supporting the body’s natural functions to correct metabolic dysfunction.

11 Benefits of Microdosing GLP-1s (That Have Nothing to Do with the Scale)

While weight management is a fantastic side effect, the systemic benefits of this peptide therapy are what truly excite me as a healthcare provider.

  1. 1mproved Insulin Sensitivity It helps regulate blood sugar levels, making it easier to support insulin sensitivity. This is vital for reducing the risk of metabolic syndrome, which becomes much more common during perimenopause.
  2. Hormonal Balance Support For my perimenopause and menopause ladies, this is huge. It can help manage the hormonal imbalances related to insulin and estrogen. It can also positively influence cortisol levels, reducing the toll chronic stress takes on your body.
  3. Brain Health & Cognitive Function Brain fog is one of the biggest complaints I hear from women in midlife. GLP-1s have neuroprotective benefits that support cognitive function and mental clarity.
  4. Cardiovascular Health It improves lipid profiles by supporting healthy cholesterol levels and reducing blood pressure by improving vascular function.
  5. Quiet the “Food Noise” Microdosing helps suppress that constant mental chatter about food. It promotes satiety so you can make conscious, healthy eating habits without feeling deprived.
  6. Gut Health By slowing gastric emptying, it improves digestion and nutrient absorption. A healthier gut microbiome is linked to better immunity and reduced inflammation.
  7. Anti-inflammatory Effects Systemic inflammation is a root cause of so many chronic issues, including arthritis and skin aging. Lowering inflammation supports your whole body.
  8. Muscle Maintenance Unlike aggressive dieting, microdosing helps preserve muscle mass. This is essential for longevity and strength as we age.
  9. Metabolic Health Boost It enhances overall metabolic function, teaching your body to use fat as an energy source more efficiently.
  10. Emotional Well-Being Stabilizing blood sugar levels has a direct impact on your mood. This can help reduce the anxiety and stress often associated with feeling out of control of your health.
  11. Long-Term Prevention This is a proactive tool. It supports longevity by addressing core health issues that become prevalent in midlife, promoting overall vitality.

Why You Should Pair It With NAD+

If the GLP-1 Microdose is the steering wheel keeping you on the road, NAD+ (Nicotinamide Adenine Dinucleotide) is the gas in the tank.

NAD+ is a vital coenzyme that fuels your cells. As we age, our natural levels drop, leading to fatigue and slower cellular repair. Supplementing with NAD+ provides a “cellular battery” boost.

  • It boosts energy by converting nutrients into ATP.
  • It supports DNA repair to slow the aging process.
  • It improves metabolism to assist with weight management.

The “Nurse’s RX” Synergy

Why do I recommend these two together? Because they solve the puzzle from two different angles.
A common struggle when changing your metabolism is temporary fatigue. NAD+ directly counteracts this by boosting your cellular energy. While the Microdose regulates your hormones and insulin, the NAD+ optimizes the cellular machinery that burns the fuel.
It is the ultimate “Metabolic Momentum.”

A Special Opportunity to Start

I am a big believer that the best time to start was yesterday, but the second-best time is right now.

For a limited time, we are offering a special bundle to help you kickstart your longevity journey. When you purchase a Longevity Microdose kit, you will receive a 1-month supply of NAD+ for FREE. (This is a $175 value included at no cost.)

Don’t miss the biggest wellness deal of the year: Get a free month of NAD+ ($175 value) when you start your longevity microdose protocol. Valid Nov 24 – Dec 1.

You do not have to go “all in” to see changes. You just have to start. This is your chance to get a massive boost while dipping your toes into a protocol that addresses the root causes of how you feel.

Six months from now, you will be so glad you didn’t wait for January.

I’ve seen how often people blame themselves for health struggles that are really rooted in biology. That’s why I share my GLP-1 journey so openly — to show what happens when science and self-compassion finally meet.

If you’ve been curious about GLP-1 medications or how to start your own journey with support that actually listens, I’ve partnered with Ellie MD to make that process simple, safe, and personal. I even offer one-on-one coaching for everyone who begins through my link.

🧬 The Truth About “Willpower” vs. Biology

As a nurse, I’ve seen this over and over again.
People blaming themselves for biology that’s been quietly working against them.

When hormones like GLP-1 (glucagon-like peptide-1) are out of balance, your hunger cues, fullness signals, and blood sugar control all get mixed up. The result? A body that constantly fights to regain weight no matter how much you “eat less and move more.”

GLP-1 medications help restore communication between your gut, brain, and pancreas. They allow your body to do what it was always meant to do. That’s not cheating. That’s science helping your body function the way it should.

My Body Isn’t Broken: A Real Story About PCOS, Loss, and Finding Hope

Have you ever felt like you’re fighting a battle with your own body that no one else understands?

Maybe for you, it was a diagnosis that seemed to come out of nowhere and changed everything. Maybe it was a long and frustrating cycle of dieting that always left you feeling worse than before. Or maybe it was a season of life—grief, stress, change—that took its toll, emotionally and physically, and you haven’t truly felt like yourself since.

If you’ve ever felt that way, I want you to know I see you. Because for me, it was all of the above. So many of you have seen my journey, but I wanted to share the real story behind it.

My Story Started Long Before the Scale

My relationship with my body was complicated from the start. Growing up, I was a product of 90s starvation diet culture, where being “skinny” was the goal, no matter how unhealthy the methods were.

In my early 20s, I was diagnosed with PCOS, and we began a long and painful journey to start our family. That journey included nine pregnancies. It’s still hard to type that number. Over several years, we experienced the heartbreak of three infant losses and six miscarriages. My body went through an absolute warzone of hormones, grief, emotional eating, and medical interventions like magnesium drips that caused insane fluid retention.

10 years ago at 30 weeks pregnant – yes THIRTY – we don’t make small babies

My Metabolism Had Officially Quit

By the time that chapter of our lives closed, my body felt completely foreign. It felt broken. My metabolism, for all intents and purposes, was non-existent. The old “calories in, calories out” formula was a joke. I once gained 20 pounds in three months from having one soda a month, with absolutely no other changes to my diet. It felt like I was being punished by my own body, and I was starting to believe I’d never have control again.

Finding Hope in Science

The turning point for me was realizing I didn’t need another diet; I needed a different set of tools. I started researching and learning about how my hormones and metabolic system were truly functioning (or not functioning). This is what led me to GLP-1 medications and peptides, like the ones I now get from Ellie MD.

For the first time, it felt like I wasn’t fighting my body anymore. Instead, I was giving it the support it needed to finally work with me. This was the useful, science-backed information I needed to finally find hope again.

This Isn’t Diet Culture – It’s Health

For the first time in my adult life, I have reached a healthy weight, and I’ve done it the HEALTHY way. There is no starvation here. In fact, I eat MORE now than I did before my journey began. The difference is that I’m making better choices, and my body is able to properly use the fuel I give it. This isn’t about fitting into a certain size; it’s about having the energy to live my life, feeling confident in my skin, and knowing I’m nourishing my body.

You’re Not Broken, and You’re Not Alone

I’m sharing all of this because I know how lonely that battle can feel. For years, I thought my body was broken beyond repair. If any part of my story sounds like your own, I just want you to know I see you, and you are not alone. Your story is valid.

If you’re curious and want to know more about the science-backed solutions that helped me, please feel free to leave a comment below. Let’s talk.

How Did I Get Here? My Journey Through PCOS, Loss, and Finding Myself Again

Let me take you back to 2001. I was 18 years old, navigating life as best I could, and decided to switch to the Depo-Provera shot. At the time, I was at my smallest size ever—a size 0. Don’t get too impressed, though. It wasn’t healthy, and even then, I was at the upper limits of a “normal BMI.” That’s when I realized BMI is absolute nonsense. (Seriously, who came up with that?!)

What I didn’t know then was that I had undiagnosed PCOS—a condition that really doesn’t get along with Depo-Provera. Within 72 hours of my first shot, I gained 15 pounds. Not kidding. I woke up, and the shorts I had just bought two weeks earlier didn’t fit. Over the next three months, while that shot coursed through my system, I packed on another 15-20 pounds. My doctor reassured me, saying the weight would “come right off” after a few months. Spoiler alert: It didn’t.

By nine months in, I’d gained over 30 pounds and was an emotional wreck. My cycle—already chaotic—was worse than ever. So, we ditched Depo-Provera and went back to traditional birth control. The weight stayed put, and I started experiencing other symptoms of PCOS, though I wouldn’t get an official diagnosis until 2006.

The Diagnosis That Changed Everything

Fast forward to 2006. I was 22 years old, newly diagnosed with PCOS and pre-diabetes. My husband and I decided to start trying for a baby earlier than planned, knowing infertility might be an uphill battle. What we didn’t expect was my atypical version of PCOS. Instead of struggling with infertility, I had hyperfertility. It really does only take one time, folks, and birth control is not foolproof.

But PCOS wasn’t the only challenge we faced. That same year, after three heartbreaking miscarriages, we discovered a genetic condition—one that gave our babies a 50/50 chance of inheriting not one but two rare syndromes. This discovery would shape our future in ways we couldn’t have imagined.

The Losses That Shaped Me

In 2009, after a whirlwind of deployments, cross-country moves, and life transitions, we welcomed our son, Anthony Maddox, on January 4, 2010. Born at 35 weeks, he carried the weight of those two syndromes and left us too soon, soaring to heaven the same day. I turned to old, unhealthy habits to cope, dropping from 155 to 135 pounds in a haze of grief.

Over the next few years, we endured more losses, including our daughter Avery Shea, who blessed us with 12 beautiful days in 2012, and our youngest son, Richard Franklin, who fought valiantly but passed on February 18, 2016. Each loss came with its own struggles, including weight fluctuations, emotional eating, and the added challenges of gestational hypertension.

Finding My Way Back to Health

By 2022, my health had hit rock bottom. My weight peaked at 209 pounds, and my hypertension was out of control. Every attempt to lose weight was met with failure—five pounds off, ten pounds back on. Keto? Tried it. Lost 25 pounds, gained it all back. COVID and DoorDash? Yeah, they didn’t help either.

Then, in October 2023, everything changed. I started my GLP-1 journey at 192.6 pounds. For the first time in years, I felt like I had a real fighting chance. These medications, combined with lipotropic + B12 injections, Sermorelin, and a lot of determination, helped me break through the barriers PCOS had thrown my way.

Where I Am Today

Thirteen and a half months later, I’m at my lowest weight since starting the Depo-Provera shot—129.4 pounds. I’ve lost over 63 pounds, conquered my insulin resistance (bye-bye, pre-diabetes!), and finally feel like I’m in control of my health.

If you’re struggling, I want you to know you’re not alone. PCOS is a beast, but with the right tools and support, you can overcome it. If you’re curious about GLP-1 medications or need a cheerleader to help you along the way, let me know. I’m here for you!

3 Things I Wish I Knew Before Starting My GLP-1 Journey

🌟 So, you’ve decided to hop on the GLP-1 train? First of all, congrats! 🎉 It’s a wild ride, but trust me—the destination is SO worth it. If I could rewind and give myself some pointers from the future, these are the top three tips I’d share about protein, fiber, and supplements. Plus, stick around for how you can work with a pro (yours truly) who has been there, done that! 🚀

1. Getting Cozy with Protein 🍗

Okay, let’s talk protein. Before my GLP-1 adventure, protein was kind of like that kid in high school you never really noticed until they starred in the school play. 🎭 Turns out, it’s a major player! Here’s why:

  • Stay Strong: Protein is your BFF for maintaining muscle mass, which is mega important when your appetite’s taken a hike.
  • Balanced Meals Are a Vibe: Make sure each meal gets a sprinkle of chicken, fish, tofu, or legumes. (Bonus points if it’s delicious).
  • Track Like a Boss: Use apps to keep an eye on your protein intake. It’s easier than stalking your crush online. 👀

2. Fiber: The Unsung Hero of Your Diet 🍎

Fiber is like that reliable friend who always has snacks in their bag. 👜 Super helpful! Here’s what got me grooving with fiber:

  • Satiety Superstar: Fiber helps keep you full, reducing the likelihood of gnawing hunger pangs at 3 A.M.
  • Digestive Delight: Regular visits to the bathroom? Yes, please. Fiber makes that happen.
  • Whole Foods, Whole Heart: Embrace whole grains, veggies, and legumes. They’ve got your back!

3. Supplementing Like a Pro 💊

Supplements were a mystery to me at first—like algebra, but make it health. Here’s how I cracked the code:

  • Doctor’s Orders: Before popping any pills, chat with your healthcare provider. Safety first, always.
  • Tailor-Made Picks: Target supplements that suit your specific needs. Think vitamin D and omega-3s, but only if you need them.
  • No Skimping: Quality is king. Choose trusted brands so you’re not ingesting fairy dust. ✨

Why Protein is Your Weight Loss BFF! 💪🥗

Hello, fabulous friends! Are you on a weight loss journey? Me too! And let me tell you, protein is like your magical sidekick in this adventure! 🧙‍♀️✨ Let’s dive into why protein is the superstar you need to reach your goals healthily and happily.

What’s Magic About Protein? 🤔

Protein is one of the three must-have macronutrients (the others are fats and carbs)—think of it as the building blocks of YOU! It repairs and builds muscles, keeps your organs ticking, and powers up your immunity! 🏋️‍♀️

Why Protein is a Weight Loss Champion 🥳

Focusing solely on the scale 📉 might lead to losing muscle along with fat—oh no! Here’s how protein saves the day:

  1. Muscle Preserver 💪 Cutting calories can lead to muscle loss—yikes! Enter protein, our superhero, to protect your muscle mass! And more muscle means more calorie burn, even during Netflix marathons. 🎬🔥
  2. Keeps You Full & Happy 🍽️ Feel starving after a meal? Protein digests slower than carbs, keeping you fuller longer, reducing snack attacks, and leaving you satisfied! 🛤️
  3. Metabolism Booster 🚀 Your body burns calories digesting protein, thanks to the “thermic effect of food.” So, protein gives your metabolism an awesome boost! 🏃‍♀️🔥
  4. Fat Loss Helper 🥳 Protein helps your body use fat for energy, not muscle. The result? Fat loss with muscles staying put, helping you achieve those toned results! ✨🎉

How Much Protein Should You Get? 🧐

The magic number! 💛 While a general guideline is to aim for 0.8-1.2 grams of protein per pound of body weight, a more personalized approach can be found using a Total Daily Energy Expenditure (TDEE) calculator. This handy tool takes into account your activity level, age, weight, and fitness goals to give you customized protein targets! It’s a game-changer, especially if you’re working out or focusing on building muscle. 💪💃

Fun & Tasty Ways to Enjoy Protein! 🥩🥚🍗

Boosting your protein doesn’t have to be dull! Try these mouthwatering ideas:

  • Greek yogurt topped with berries and honey 🍓🍯
  • Smoothies with almond butter, spinach, and protein powder 🍌🍵
  • Veggie-loaded egg muffins for an easy breakfast 🧁🥬
  • Grilled chicken tacos with all the fixings 🌮🥑

Don’t forget the plant-based proteins! Lentils, chickpeas, tofu, and quinoa are fantastic too. 🌱

Protein = Your Secret Superpower 💥

In a nutshell (and nuts are a great source of protein too! 🥜), protein is your bestie when it comes to weight loss. It keeps you strong, satisfied, and helps you get the results you want without losing muscle. Plus, it’s delicious and versatile!

So, next time you’re meal planning, give a little extra love to protein. Your body will appreciate it, and your progress will skyrocket! 🌟

Let’s stay strong, focused, and smash those goals together! 🏆🙌
